CRIME STOPPERS

You can help Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputies solve a case and get a reward of up to $1,000.

Sheriff Myron E. Freeman and Crime Stoppers encourage members of the community to assist the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime by overcoming the two key elements that inhibit community involvement:  fear and apathy.

Crime Stoppers provides an anonymous, toll-free tip line and web tips to encourage citizens in the community to volunteer vital information helpful to law enforcement agencies all across the country.

Callers can remain anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $1,000 if the information given leads to an arrest of a fugitive or solves an unsolved crime in which either an arrest is made or an arrest warrant is issued for the suspect.

Monies to fund the Crime Stoppers Reward Program comes from people like you, businesses, special events, the Crime Stoppers Trust Fund, and special law enforcement funds (related to repossessed property and forfeiture sales).  There is no government funding involved.  Your taxes do not pay for Crime Stoppers.  This is truly a community based program on a grand scale.

HOW IT WORKS
Put simply, it is a three part approach to solving the crime problem.  Crime Stoppers relies on cooperation between the police, the media, and the general public to provide a flow of information about crime and criminals.

THE PHONE CALL
Calls are received at the local Crime Stoppers tips line phone.  This phone is a stand alone instrument which does not provide caller ID and conversations are not recorded.  The Crime Stoppers Coordinator receiving the information completes the tips information form, makes initial inquiries and passes the information to the investigating law enforcement officer.  Calls are accepted regarding any publicized request for information, such as “Crime of the Week” or other crime(s) the caller has knowledge of.

By guaranteeing a caller’s anonymity, Crime Stoppers allows the caller to give information in a positive atmosphere without the prospect of retribution.  By offering cash rewards for information leading to indictment or arrests, the program encourages otherwise reluctant callers to provide information.
