SHERIFF FREEMAN OFFICIALLY INTRODUCES THE NEW CHIEF JAILER
(April 3, 2008 - Atlanta, Georgia)  On April 3, 2008, Sheriff Myron E. Freeman hosted a reception to allow the community and key personnel within the Fulton County justice system to meet the new Chief Jailer.  Mr. Edward McNeil was sworn in as Chief Jailer on March 7, 2008.  Sheriff Freeman said, “The job of Chief Jailer is one of the most important jobs in Fulton County.  It is crucial for him to meet all of the participants in the criminal justice system and members of the community that he will serve.  All of us are affected by the Jail in one way or another.” (See full story)


 

SHERIFF SWEARS IN NEW CHIEF JAILER
(March 15, 2008 - Atlanta, Georgia)  After a nationwide search, Sheriff Myron E. Freeman announces the hiring of a new Chief Jailer.   On Friday, March 7, 2008, Sheriff Freeman swore in Mr. Edward McNeil to assume the duties as Chief Jailer at the Rice Street facility.   Mr. McNeil will handle the daily operations of the Jail.  (See full story)


 

RESERVE DEPUTIES KEEP THE PEACE IN VINE CITY
(March 20, 2008 - Atlanta, Georgia)  People living in storm ravished Vine City have enough to deal with these days as they recover from last week’s tornado.  And when Sheriff Myron E. Freeman learned that looters were targeting these storm victims, he knew what needed to be done.  Sheriff Freeman called upon members of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Unit to patrol Vine City.  Reserve deputies have been on the scene since Wednesday to give residents peace of mind while they take action to repair their homes. APPOINTMENT OF NEW COURT MONITOR
October 22, 2007 – Atlanta, Georgia)  Sheriff Myron E. Freeman was pleased to learn of the appointment of Mr. Calvin A. Lightfoot as the Court Monitor. 
Sheriff Freeman says, “I look forward to working with Mr. Lightfoot and the Federal Court to help make the Fulton County Jail better.  We have met with Mr. Lightfoot and he appears to be more than qualified for the job.  Furthermore, we are proud of our accomplishments at the Fulton County Jail thus far and everyone on my staff plans to extend Mr. Lightfoot every courtesy as we move forward to be in compliance with the Consent Decree.”
