Woodland Middle School Students to Graduate From Gang Resistance Program, Tuesday

Students at Woodland Middle School have some really great things to look forward to when they return to school Tuesday morning, February 29th. That's when more than three hundred (300) seventh graders will graduate from Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.). Fulton County Sheriff Jacquelyn H. Barrett and Woodland Principal Moses Scott are proud to honor the students at a special graduation ceremony that will take place at 9:00 a.m. in the school gymnasium.

During the past nine (9) weeks, the seventh grade class has attended the specialized training program, taught by a uniformed deputy of the Fulton County Sheriff s Office. The nationally recognized G.R.E.A.T. program has helped thousands of students nationwide resist the temptation of joining a gang. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), which sponsors G.R.E.A.T., is expected to attend tomorrow's ceremony.

G.R.E.A.T. was founded in 1991 by the Phoenix Police Office and a middle school principal. The G.R.E.A.T. program is currently taught in forty-eight (48) states by uniformed law enforcement officers who have undergone G.R.E.A.T. instructor training.

Woodland Middle School is located at 2816 Briarwood Boulevard in East Point. For more information, please contact Sergeant Clarence Huber at (404) 730-4148. Sergeant Huber can also be reached on his digital pager at (404) 833-8884.
