| Funeral
services for Fulton County Deputy Ricky L. Kinchen is scheduled for
Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church, located at
534 Fairburn Road in Southwest Atlanta.
This afternoon, I met with representatives of the four (4) major TV
stations here in Atlanta to discuss coverage of tomorrow's funeral
service. I have sectioned off a portion of the balcony seating
specifically for representatives of the local and national media. As we
expect a large turn out at tomorrow's service, I ask that you utilize
seating in this section of the church ONLY.
Photographers who will be taking still photos are asked to restrict
their movement during the service within the church.
Reverend Sutton and the staff at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church have
offered use of their television production facility for tomorrow's funeral
service. Local station representatives at today's meeting have agreed to
provided camera operators and technical support to assist. No other
television cameras will be permitted inside the church tomorrow. All
broadcast media will be expected to pull from the control room equipment.
Technical staff will be available to assist with an audio feed, if
requested.
Arrival Time / Parking
Local media representatives should begin to arrive at the church by
8:00 a.m. to begin setting up cameras and equipment. Atlanta television
stations WSB, WAGA, WXIA, and WGNX, will be permitted to park their
microwave trucks inside the gates of the church. These units will be
positioned at the Collier Road entrance. Vehicles should be parked in the
grass to the left of the driveway, so the flow of normal traffic is not
jeopardized.
Mr. Lindsey Jordan of Jackson Memorial Baptist Church has arranged for
additional parking at Harper/Archer High School, located directly across
the street. All representatives of the local and national media are asked
to use this parking lot. The Church parking will be reserved for
dignitaries and motorcade vehicles.
Other than the four (4) microwave trucks mentioned above, no other
media vehicle will be permitted on church grounds.
Media Staging Area
A staging are has been established outside the church, where camera
operators may set up for additional footage. This area is located at the
front of the church, just inside the gate on the Fairburn Road. Camera
operators will be permitted to utilize the grassy area to the left. From
this location, photos may be taken of the church, including the side
entrance where the hearse will deliver the casket.
No other area inside the gate may be utilized for purposes of staging
equipment. Camera operators and reporters will not be permitted to
approach any vehicle arriving at the church, nor will they solicit
interviews from any person attending the service for Deputy Kinchen.
Family Motorcade
At 11:30 a.m., the family of Deputy Kinchen will be escorted to Jackson
Memorial Baptist Church by three (3) Fulton County Sheriffs Office
vehicles, four (4) Fulton County Police motorcycles, and four (4) City of
Atlanta Police motorcycles. These units will accompany the body of Deputy
Ricky Kinchen to the church. The motorcade will proceed northbound on
interstate 75 North to I-285 westbound. At Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive,
the motorcade will turn left. Upon approaching Fairburn Road, the
motorcade will turn right and proceed to Jackson Memorial Baptist Church.
The motorcade is expected to arrive at the church shortly before 1:00 p.m.
Law Enforcement Procession
Law enforcement vehicles will begin staging at the Turner Field parking
lot beginning at 10:00 a.m. The procession will begin at 11:00 a.m., and
proceed north on McDaniel Street to I-20 west. At the I285/Martin Luther
King, Jr., Drive exit, the procession will proceed west on MLK. Upon
approaching Fairburn Road, the law enforcement procession will turn right,
and proceed to Jackson Memorial Baptist Church.
Memorial Agenda
An agenda for tomorrow's service is not available at this hour. Copies
will be picked up at the printer by morning, and made available to the
media as soon as possible.
Additional Service and Burial
An additional service for Deputy Ricky L. Kinchen will be held on
Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church,
2120 South Park, in Tifton, Georgia. The service is scheduled to begin at
2:00 p.m., with burial to follow. Further details will be made available
tomorrow.
