The New York City
Police Office recently received specialized training with the help of
the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.
On Friday, January 5th, Major E. A. “Skip” Platt was the guest
instructor at the New York City Police Office Training Academy.
Major
Platt was invited to New York to teach a specialized instructor class in
the use of Oleoresin Capsicum (pepper spray).
The eight (8) hour course was taught to certified instructors from
the New York City Police Office.
Through this training, the instructors are now certified to teach
“O.C.” classes to their 40,000 + police officers.
His
extensive knowledge and experience in “O.C.” is what brought Major
Platt to New York to teach at the NYPD.
Major
Platt has been a training instructor since 1991. He is certified as an FBI
Chemical Weapons Instructor, and wrote the Oleoresin Capsicum lesson plan
approved by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.).
This lesson is currently taught to law enforcement officers across
the state.
Working
under the direction of Sheriff Jacquelyn Barrett, Major Platt is commander
of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Planning and Research
Division. Last year, Major Platt helped lead the department in achieving
its national law enforcement accreditation.
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office is one of eight
Sheriff’s Departments and the largest law enforcement agency in Georgia
to receive national CALEA accreditation.
