Following months of research
and preparation, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office will introduce “B.U.G.S.”
(Buckle Up Georgia Students) at Atlanta’s Harper-Archer High School.
Attending tomorrow’s presentation will be Fulton County Sheriff Jacquelyn H.
Barrett, and Ms. Yvonne McBride, Director of the Georgia Governor’s Office
of Highway Safety.
B.U.G.S. is the first high
school based crime prevention program presented by the Fulton County
Sheriff’s Office. With recent concerns over traffic accidents and
fatalities throughout the metro Atlanta area involving teen drivers, the
Fulton County Sheriff’s Office will be educating young drivers on the
importance of seat belt safety.
The B.U.G.S. program is
expected to reach thousands of high school students throughout Fulton County
in the weeks ahead. In addition to students becoming aware of Georgia Law
requiring seat belts, the Sheriff’s Office will deliver a powerful
safety message to students in a specially created multi-media presentation.
While traffic accidents may be unavoidable in some instances, the likelihood
of serious injury or death can be drastically reduced or avoided when seat
belts are properly worn. The B.U.G.S. program is designed to encourage teen
drivers to buckle-up each and every time they enter a vehicle.
The B.U.G.S. is funded by a
grant through the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. The program
at Harper-Archer will begin tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. |
