The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office has two words of advise for the
Junior Class at Benjamin E. Mays High School on Monday….”Buckle-Up”.
With the Junior-Senior prom scheduled for next Saturday, deputies from the
Fulton County Sheriff’s Office will bring “B.U.G.S” to center stage in
the Mays High School Auditorium on Monday, May 12, 2003, at 9:00 a.m.
“B.U.G.S”, which stands for “Buckle Up Georgia Students” is a seat belt
safety education program taught by deputy instructors with the Fulton County
Sheriff’s Office. The purpose of B.U.G.S. is to educate students about
the deadly consequences associated with driving unbuckled. The fifty (50)
minute multi-media presentation, created by sheriff’s department training
personnel, allows students to visualize the results of deadly car crashes,
and to learn about existing state laws regarding seat belt use inside a
motor vehicle. Students attending the presentation on Monday will receive
education material, as well as buckle up incentives. The
B.U.G.S. program is funded by a grant from the Georgia Governor’s Office of
Highway Safety. Sheriff Jacquelyn H. Barrett and the Fulton County Sheriff’s
Office offer the program to all high schools in the Atlanta/Fulton
County school districts.
