A contract maintenance worker and a jail Detention Officer were arrested
following a undercover sting operation at the Fulton County Jail which
lasted three weeks. The arrests come after an internal investigation at the
jail which involved the alleged distribution of illegal drugs to inmates.
On Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit, along with undercover
investigators from the GBI arrested contract maintenance employee Daylan
Lovett after he allegedly distributed a controlled substance to an inmate in
exchange for cash. Lovett was placed under arrest and is charged with
Delivering a Controlled Substance to an Inmate, and Trading with an Inmate,
which is a felony. The investigation by the Sheriff’s
Office and GBI also led to the arrest and apprehension of 36 year old
Detention Officer George King. King, a two year employee with the Fulton
County Sheriff’s Office, was taken into custody without incident as he
reported to work this afternoon shortly after 3:00 p.m. King is charged with
one count of Violation of Oath of Office and one count of Trading with an
Inmate. Additional charges may be pending. Fulton County Sheriff Jacquelyn
H. Barrett plans to begin termination proceeding in accordance with county
guidelines. Following their arrests, both Lovett and King
were booked into the Fulton County Jail. Lovett is currently being housed in
another jail. King will also be transported to an outside holding facility.
Fulton County Sheriff Jacquelyn H. Barrett announced this afternoon that the
arrest of Lovett and King should deliver a strong message about her intent
to run a safe and secure facility.
