On Monday, March 15th, a Georgia State Prison inmate will speak to students
at North Springs High School in Fulton County about the deadly consequences
of driving while intoxicated. Under the watchful supervision
of Fulton County Sheriff’s deputies, state prisoner Christopher Sandy will
share his personal experience of life behind bars following a tragic car
crash that killed two elderly people. Sandy, 26, is now serving a thirteen
year sentence in the Georgia State Prison System for DUI and Vehicular
Homicide. Dressed in prison attire, Sandy will be handcuffed at the waist
and shackled as he talks students about the tragic events that changed his
life on the evening of April 11, 2000. Sandy will reveal the
graphic details of the high-speed crash that literally cut an on-coming
vehicle in two pieces. He will describe his personal feelings about the
crash and how he copes with life on a daily basis while in prison. Sandy
will also encourage students to make positive choices in their lives, and to
avoid the use of alcohol and drugs. Sandy will speak to the
Junior and Senior class at North Springs High School at 9:00 a.m., and 10:30
a.m. in the school auditorium. North Springs High School is located at 7447
Roswell Road, NE. Christopher Sandy is also scheduled to
speak at Northview High School on Thursday, March 18th.
