requirements allow only the finest few to become Fulton County Detention
Officers or Deputy Sheriffs. The selection process is rigorous.
As a Fulton County Sheriff's Deputy, you will receive State-mandated training
through the Fulton County Public Safety Training Center, which is one of the
most advanced training centers in existence today, and 12 weeks of Field
Training with a highly-trained and experienced Fulton County Sheriff's Field
Training Officer.
As a Fulton County Detention Officer, you will receive State-mandated training through the Fulton County Public Safety Training Center, and 6 weeks of Jail Training with a highly-trained and experienced Fulton County Sheriff's Jail Training Officer.

The current salary range for Deputy Sheriff I is (B23) $33,302 - $53,316.
The current salary range for Detention Officer I is (B21) $26,016 - $45,051.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Have a High School Diploma or its recognized equivalent (G.E. D.). Associate degree from an accredited college or university or two (2) years of college. (Minimum 60 Semester hours or 90 Quarter hours) or two (2) years as a certified peace officer with full arrest powers.
Public Law Enforcement Agency may be substituted for each one (1) year of education lacked.
DRIVER'S LICENSE: Must possess a valid Georgia Driver's License at time of appointment.
AGE: Must be at least twenty (20) years of age. No maximum age cutoff.
VISION: Visual acuity of at least 20/100 uncorrected is required in each eye correctable to 20/20 one eye and 20/40 the other or better with corrective lenses. Applicants must be able to distinguish all basic colors.
WEIGHT: Must be proportional to height according to chart of “Special Physical Standards for Pre-employment Physical Examinations for Law Enforcement/Peace Officer/Firefighter and Related Classes”.
CRIMINAL ACTIVITY: Have no felony conviction or multiple misdemeanor convictions.
The
examination will consist of an evaluation of education, training, and
experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Application must
document that the applicant possesses the minimum knowledge, skills, education
and experience. If selected,
an official college transcript is required.

All candidates have two (2) oral interviews during the selection process. In order to be effective and impartial, these interviews are standardized. A defined set of criteria, uniform questions and rating are used. The Recruitment/Background Investigation Unit and the Oral Review Board conduct interviews for the Sheriff's Office and the questions will be job-related. In addition, the Sheriff or her designee will conduct an interview with candidates recommended for hire prior to appointment to probationary status.
This process is designed to ensure that only mature and disciplined individuals with the necessary skills and abilities are selected for the Fulton County Sheriff Office.
The length of the selection process can take from two to four months. The completeness of the candidate’s application and his/her ability to complete required pre-employment examinations are factors which may affect the duration of the process.
Deputy Sheriff recruits must successfully complete Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.)-approved Mandate and Jail Officer certification courses within one year of employment. Deputy Sheriff recruits will not be sworn or given any law enforcement-related duties prior to successful completion of Peace Officer certification. Detention Officer recruits must successfully complete Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.)-approved Jail Officer certification courses within one year of employment.
All recruits will remain on probation for a minimum period of twelve (12) months.

Incumbents are responsible for the provision of adequate law enforcement services of Fulton County to prevent crimes and preserve the peace with full powers of arrests. Incumbents enforce the orders, writs and precepts of the courts and are responsible for providing security of County buildings, courtrooms and jails, transporting prisoners, or serving warrants as assigned, and are authorized to use deadly force when necessary.

Duties
| Transports inmates and disturbed persons and others in the Sheriff’s custody. | |
| Secures the jail including conducting inspections of the jail cells, monitoring jail corridors, serving watch duty and inventorying inmates belongings. | |
| Processes, secures, interviews, searches, releases and identifies inmates or other persons in the Sheriff’s custody and prepares prison records. | |
| Secures and maintains order in the jail courtroom. | |
| Makes arrests as necessary. | |
| Performs investigative duties pertaining to jail matters. | |
| Prepares reports with the courts calendar, jail or inmate lists and other necessary data. | |
| Assist Judges as directed with Jail Video Court. | |
| Performs clerical duties such as answering the telephones, filing, and typing. | |
| Adheres to list of duties and responsibilities that the Georgia Peace Officers Standards Training has identified as task and standards of performance required of Peace Officers. |
Incumbents
are responsible for supervising inmates, monitoring visitation, securing
facilities and executing legal mandates in the County jail system as assigned
and in accordance with county, state and federal rules and regulations.

| Serves on tower watch in an electronic control station. |
